Dog Training

The sepia-toned photographs in this gallery were taken in the 1970s during the old Mowbray Camp days. These images captured scenes of officers and their canine partners during dog training and anti-crime patrol.

The training included basic obedience classes where they were required to execute commands from their handlers without hesitation.

In the 70s, Police Guard Dogs were made up of German Shepherds. In the early 90s, the Unit introduced Belgium Shepherd or Malinois as Guard Dogs due to its excellent history as a working dog overseas.

Can you spot the full body suit in the photo gallery? Yes, you got it! Does it resemble a spacesuit? There was also a nickname given by the handlers, aptly referred to as the "Apollo Suit". There will be an opportunity to see a real suit displayed in the Heritage Gallery.
